Intertel GLX: Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

Intertel GLX: Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

The Intertel GLX phone system defies time, logic, and (at least in its appearance) good taste. These phones sell refurbished for nearly as much and sometimes more than when they were last made in the early and mid 90's. What makes this system still popular?

I don't know.

It's features are basic. You get speed dial, hold, speakerphone, transfer, conference, redial, system hold--and you don't even get all of these on the Standard phone. The Executive model adds 12 Busy Lamp Field/Direct Station Selection buttons.

The colors on the GLX remind one of avocado refrigerators from fixerup homes. The system starts with 3 lines and 8 phones. With an expansion module, it can grow to 6 lines and 12 phones.

The more advanced version, the GLX Plus is a modest upgrade. It has basically the same features and is exactly the same size. All of the phones have DSS/BLF. The Executive phone offers an LCD Display. The GLX Plus phones are charcoal and thus not an eyesore.

Market economics dictate the high pricing for the GLX. Quite a few of these systems were sold because they were reasonably priced. When they were on the market as new, many business owners didn't feel the need for voicemail, Caller ID or other 'fancy' features.

Since then, many of the original owners have clung to these beauties. Their need to replace bad phones or to expand has kept the demand side high versus a diminishing supply. These are hard to find, so unfortunately the price is high.

We can help you keep your GLX and GLX Plus systems going. We have phones, handsets, cords, expansion cards and even replacement KSU's.

If you ever decide to give up on it, we will offer you a trade-in and give you a good deal on a new system, too. One you can keep for the next twenty years, of course.
